Benchmarking $80M in Global Network Spend
Problem
TC2 has supported this financial services industry multinational firm since 2003, including several cycles of competitive network procurements and mid-term benchmark reviews tied to its annual rate review discussions. In the most recent cycle, the client needed a clear market view of what it was paying across a large, global WAN environment supported by more than ten different suppliers.
The scope was significant. TC2 evaluated $80 million in annual network spend across all major regions of the world to determine how current pricing compared with the market. The goal was straightforward: understand where rates had drifted, quantify the gap, and give the client a practical, strategic path to address it supplier by supplier.
Solution
TC2 performed a benchmark market assessment across more than ten suppliers supporting the client’s global WAN. That analysis showed pricing to be approximately 11% out of market, creating a clear fact base for the next round of supplier discussions.
From there, TC2 determined individual pricing targets for each supplier, identified the leverage points to use and developed supplier-by-supplier negotiation strategies. Rather than treat the exercise as a high-level market check, we translated the findings into targeted negotiation positions that reflected the client’s actual spend profile, supplier mix, and global footprint.
This approach allowed the client to move into its annual rate review cycle with a clear understanding of where pricing stood, where the largest opportunities existed, and how to pursue reductions across a broad and complex network estate.
