Case Study

Building a Strategic Telecom Sourcing Capability

Problem

This Fortune 100 financial services provider operates a highly complex global WAN environment spanning thousands of circuits, multiple strategic suppliers, and a network footprint that continues to evolve. Before TC2’s involvement, the client faced growing difficulty maintaining competitive pricing, extracting maximum value from incumbent supplier relationships, and keeping service levels aligned with business expectations across a broad international estate.

The scale of the environment made that challenge even harder. With more than 4,500 circuits across 150 countries, one-time sourcing events were not enough to keep pricing aligned to market or to sustain leverage with major providers over time. The client needed a more proactive sourcing model that could continuously manage cost, improve commercial outcomes, and support stronger operational performance across the global network.

"Sustained cost improvement in the largest global networks does not come from isolated sourcing events. It comes from building an ongoing sourcing discipline that combines market intelligence, benchmarking, and negotiations across an ongoing recurring lifecycle of strategic sourcing."
- Larry York, Executive Director

Solution

TC2 partnered with the client to turn telecom sourcing into a more proactive and strategic capability. The work began with a full-scale competitive global WAN procurement helping establish a stronger commercial foundation with the client’s major suppliers.

From there, TC2 provided ongoing annual rate review benchmarking and negotiation support across the client’s strategic network providers. This recurring approach helped the client keep pricing aligned with market conditions while maintaining negotiating leverage in supplier discussions year after year.

Alongside the annual rate reviews, TC2 supported a broader set of initiatives including full turnkey RFPs, mid-term directed negotiations, technology and sourcing strategy development, and billing audit services. Taken together, this work helped simplify commercial structures, reduce unnecessary complexity, and give the client a stronger position in managing incumbent supplier relationships across its global network estate.
