Case Study

Modernizing a Global Network and Managed Services Environment

Problem

TC2 was engaged to conduct a comprehensive strategic review of the client’s global network transport and managed services environment, which represented more than $110 million in annual spend. The objective was not limited to reducing cost – the client also wanted to identify opportunities to improve service performance and take advantage of newer technologies that could better support the business over time.

At the center of the challenge was an existing managed network services arrangement that had become costly, underperforming, and heavily dependent on supplier headcount. At the same time, the broader environment presented clear opportunities to rethink transport strategy, improve pricing and service terms, and align future sourcing decisions with a modern network architecture. The client needed a practical view of where value could be created and a path to act on it.

"The strongest transformation programs do not separate cost reduction from service improvement. They use both to reshape the environment in a way that is more scalable, more effective, and better aligned to where the business is headed."
- Brent Knight, Director

Solution

TC2 developed a strategy to reshape the managed network services environment from a headcount-intensive model into a more agile, scalable, and outcomes-oriented approach designed to deliver targeted year-over-year improvement. In parallel, we identified substantial opportunities to reduce the cost of the client’s transport services and built sourcing strategies to capture those savings while also advancing the client’s broader cloud connectivity objectives.

That work included designing a path to an SD-WAN-powered, internet-first network solution using TC2’s portfolio supplier methodology. It also included transforming the legacy TDM voice environment to SIP across North America and Europe. Rather than treat these as isolated workstreams, TC2 structured the recommendations as part of a broader transformation effort across the client’s WAN, voice, internet, and managed services environment.

The assessment culminated in a report that defined the scope, strategy, and roadmap for a global modular RFP program spanning the full $110 million of annual spend, along with the expected benefits the sourcing program was positioned to deliver. TC2 was then engaged to lead the competitive procurement process for the WAN, SIP, internet, and managed services scope. That included determining the timing and supplier participants most likely to maximize the cost savings opportunity while also maximizing the value of the transformational technology solutions being pursued.
